And, I can guess how it happened- The PR people wanted post-911 footage.
Well, they got it:

Most "beauty shoots" of aircraft take place well away from populated areas. I've worked with directors; they always want closer shots, for a more dramatic effect. That's how we lost one of the two B-70's and an F-104, once.
In a little known film, Von Richtoven And Brown, an incident occurred where a director kept calling "Closer! Closer!" from a tower built to film very low-altitude stunts.
The off-duty Irish Air Force pilots (filmed in Ireland), and one quite famous ex-USAF fighter pilot (playing Brown) had had quite enough.
They attempted to ram the tower. There's footage of the camera crew- and director- jumping from the tower to save themselves.
PR people, and film directors, need keepers for a reason.
Additional: I just learned from my spy network that the guy who ordered the mission was an idiot at his previous job:

He's a Pointer, a Clintonista, and at UNM he was "encouraged" to "pursue other interests" to the tune of $700 k.
A Pointer who gets assigned to Fort Dix is usually likened to a certain fictional Captain Wilton Parmenter... Think John Laroquette from "Stripes".

Guess where's he's landing next, Wally? Part of the exit package was the promise that he could have a $120K/year job as a law professor if he ever wanted it. (Which has real, underpaid professors of such archaic disciplines as history, English, etc steaming.)
According to today's paper it's quite likely that's where he'll land.
Nice to be a high-ranking idiot, isn't it?
"Land" is a very interesting word to use, in this context... :)
I'm a trained, post-grad educated, professional, with a good rep. I have no guarantees of a safety net.
I think class warfare is going to be a major feature of the 4T.
